Would you say that’s also been the most challenging thing about playing this role? Or is there something else you find more challenging?
Yeah. That definitely ups the ante when you’ve got a lot of emotional things going on and then you’ve got to bring in the physical things that are now on top of everything. The other thing that I think is a constant challenge is kind of reminding yourself of all the little nuances of vampires and what they’re susceptible to doing and becoming. Whether it’s your heightened emotions all the time or getting used to your attack face. That’s always one that I’m still adapting to is remembering my attack face.

TV Guide Magazine: Why is Caroline more likable as a vampire?
Accola: Caroline started out as a narcissistic, queen-bee bitch. What’s so much fun is that in vampire form, she’s trying to figure it all out. If she gives in to her own selfish needs as a vampire, people die.
TV Guide Magazine: Sort of a vamp coming-of-age story?
Accola: [Laughs] She’s grown up a lot since she’s been undead. It’s exciting to hear girls say, “I love that Caroline’s kicking butt now!”

PopWrap: First off, you have been killing it this season.
Candice Accola: Oh thank you so much. It’s always been exciting to wake up and go to work. In this business it’s also just exciting to have a job [laughs] and one that you enjoy. But to be presented with new challenges one season in is just a joy – there is not enough thanks or praise I can give to the writers for this wonderful opportunity!
PW: Did any part of you think, “this will be fun, but all the humans who become vampires tend to die?”
Candice: Well, not necessarily because of the transformation – the first day we started production in Atlanta, they called us into the conference room for a big congratulations on the pick up. And then right after that, the first thing we were told, “guess what – you’re on a vampire show, you can die at any time.” [laughs]. The room went pretty quiet after that.
