Co-executive producer Julie Plec talks with TV Guide about what we can expect for The Vampire Diaries when it returns in January.
Read the entire interview here. It does contain spoilers!!!!
Here is an excerpt.
What’s happening when Diaries opens its pages again in January?
Our first episode back is a very Damon and Elena-centric story. The two of them go off on a little adventure and bond in a way she didn’t think they were capable of. Having left her necklace behind with the vervaine, the question is: is Damon taking Elena along of her own free will or is he controlling her to enjoy the experience. Also, Gina Torres (Firefly, 24) guest stars as a witch that Damon goes to visit.
James Remar has been cast as Giuseppe Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries. You might recognize him as Dexter’s dad on Showtime’s hit Dexter and now he plays papa to Stefan and Damon.
TV Guide has an interview with him.
You can read it all here.
Here is an excerpt:
Keck: You seem like a great choice to play Papa Salvatore. How did you get the role?
Remar: I was brought in by Marcos Siega, who has directed several episodes of Dexter and Vampire Diaries. He’s now the show runner on Vampire Diaries and thought I’d be right for this role.
Keck: What have they told you about this guy, Giuseppe?
Remar: He’s an aristocrat in the 1860′s of Italian decent. It’s the Civil War Era and it’s about how he relates to his boys.

PopWrap: How stoked were you that last week’s episode was so Bonnie-centric?
Katerina Graham: I was pretty excited. I heard that there was going to be a Bonnie episode, but you never know. Then to have it also be a really great, scary one that gave fans a lot of info about what was happening with her was even cooler.
PW: How much of Bonnie’s path to becoming a witch did you know about from day one?
Katerina: Very little. No one told me Bonnie was going to become a witch. You could tell from the pilot that this character was going to evolve, but she could have gone in a totally different direction — I mean, she could have become a vampire!
Jasmine Guy and Katerina Graham did an interview with Movie Line. They talk about their characters.

Here is an excerpt:
Is there a different viewer response to the witches than the vampires? Is there pro-vampire, anti-witch backlash?
KG: I haven’t had any backlash, and I think that’s because the character didn’t come off as a witch right away, we got to know and love Bonnie Bennett for who she was. And we’re with her when she discovers her abilities. I know Harry Potter had a backlash from certain groups for glorifying the witch story line, but I haven’t had any at all.
JG: To me, people are just curious as to how the witches interact with the vampires. I know some of the folklore, but not a lot of it. It’s interesting to watch the world we’re living in being created. It’s kind of like logging the forest as we step into it, and that’s kind of cool that I don’t what’s going to happen, and neither does my character. So there’s a suspense. I don’t have to think I know what’s going on.

What are the most and least fun parts of working on the show?
The best part of working on this show is the cast and crew. I wake up pumped to go to work. There is a lot of laughing that goes on between takes. The only hard part about working on a vampire show is the really late nights.
