E! gives us a little Vampire Diaries scoop.

It isn’t much, but it’s something!!

Marlene in Columbus, Ohio: Vampire Diaries! Please, something, anything. I can’t stand the wait.

We just chatted up Jasmine Guy, and she tells us she’s “having a ball” playing Bonnie’s grandmother and will be back sooner or later. She also hinted at a bigger picture storyline arc for the series: “There’s this whole inner life between the witches and the vampires where there’s this pact between the two forces that they won’t expose each other. So I’m excited to explore that.” She also calls the show’s producers “elusive” and that she learns what she’s going to do when she gets on set. They’re good with the secret-keeping, those Vampire peeps!

Is there a different viewer response to the witches than the vampires? Is there pro-vampire, anti-witch backlash?
KG: I haven’t had any backlash, and I think that’s because the character didn’t come off as a witch right away, we got to know and love Bonnie Bennett for who she was. And we’re with her when she discovers her abilities. I know Harry Potter had a backlash from certain groups for glorifying the witch story line, but I haven’t had any at all.

JG: To me, people are just curious as to how the witches interact with the vampires. I know some of the folklore, but not a lot of it. It’s interesting to watch the world we’re living in being created. It’s kind of like logging the forest as we step into it, and that’s kind of cool that I don’t what’s going to happen, and neither does my character. So there’s a suspense. I don’t have to think I know what’s going on.

According to an article over at TV Guide Jasmine Guy has been cast to play Bonnie’s grandmother in the Vampire Diaries.

Here is what Kevin Williamson had to say about the character:

“It’s a timeless role,” explains series executive producer Kevin Williamson. “She looks so young because she’s a witch! She’s a college professor at the local university who teaches the occult. Bonnie starts to think she may be a witch, and it turns out they have a lineage of witches in their family dating back to Salem. Bonnie thinks it’s all crazy until she starts doing things like lighting fires.
