The premise is the same: you know, girl meets vampire,” said producer Kevin Williamson. “When you read the first book, I was like, ‘No way. This is Twilight.’ But when I got to the second book, you start to realize, ‘Oh, my God, boy, this is a fork in the road. It really does separate.’ Once we got into it, it’s sort of a challenge. It’s like, ‘What can we do differently? What can we add to it?’”

Starpulse has an interview with creator Kevin Williamson of the Vampire Diaries. He says he is excited about the show.

“The town wakes up to [the vampires] relatively quick and tries to do something about it,” Williamson said. “We don’t know exactly who is it in the town, who are these people that figure it out. We have a character coming in, in a couple of episodes that is another series regular that steps in and he comes with an agenda.”

Executive producer of the Vampire Diaries had an interview with MTV. He talks about the show and how it is not Twilight.
