Zach Roerig

Cast and Characters, Interviews

TVStar has an interview with Zach Roerig.

Read the whole thing here.

Here is an excerpt:

Let’s start with The Vampire Diaries (TV). A lot of people wrote off the show before it even started, calling it a younger, lighter take on True Blood or a TV version of Twilight. What was your thinking early on about its resemblances/differences to other vampire fare and how confident were you that it would find an audience?

The Vampire Diaries literary series has been around since 1991, which gave us somewhat of an advantage in finding an audience, as it was already a bit of a known commodity. A lot of people attempt to dissect the current vampire phenomenon, ranking each different show and movie in terms of what’s “better” and what is “best,” but I truly believe there is room for these franchises to coexist. Twilight is a film series and True Blood is vastly different in terms of content, so I don’t believe any of us are going head to head or stepping on one another’s toes. Why choose between the three when one can enjoy them all?

Zach Interview

Cast and Characters, Interviews

Cosmo Girl
has an interview with Zach Roerig.

Check it all out here.

Here is an excerpt:

Cosmogirl: How are you and your character Matt Donovan alike?

Zach Roerig: I would like to think I am quite similar to Matt in terms of his protectiveness as well as his general good-heartedness, although I don’t think I have near the temperament that he shows at times. I know it’s cheesy, but as fictional characters go he’s a pretty solid role model.

Inspire Magazine has an interview with Zach Roerig.

Read it all here.

Here is an excerpt:

Vampire Diaries has been getting a huge buzz with young adults, what did you expect from the audiences when first landing the role of Matt?

“I really didn’t know what to expect to be honest. Our demographic is a pretty honest bunch, so I knew that if they hated me, I would find out pretty quickly. Luckily that did not end up being the case.”

Teen Vogue has an interview with Zach Roerig.

Here is an excerpt:

You grew up in a very Vampire Diaries appropriate setting–your father and grandfather made gravestones for a living?

Yeah, my family business was monuments. I’d been doing that since I was able to tie my own work boots. I’m from a really, really small town in Ohio and it was always set up that I was going to be the guy to take over the business. Then in high school, I told my folks I might want to give acting a shot.

I from a very small town in Ohio and I think it would be cool to make monuments, I know I’m a strange one, LOL!!!

Cast and Characters, Interviews

Betty Confidential has an interview with Zach Roerig.

Here is an excerpt: (Spoilers)

People in Mystic Falls — including your character’s sister Vicki (Kayla Ewell) — are dying left and right. Does that scare you that you could be killed off at any time?
Are you kidding? Any time I read a script that says, “Matt goes into a room followed by Damon [Ian Somerhalder],” I get worried. But on the very first table read for the show, our supervising producer said, “We love you all, but this is The Vampire Diaries — it’s not Stefan’s Diaries or Elena’s Diaries or anyone else’s diaries, so everyone stay on your toes.” We all knew then and there that we could go at any time. I mean, come on, anything’s possible when you have vampires around!

When Matt finds out Vicki’s dead, is he going to go after Damon and Stefan [Paul Wesley]?

Matt’s definitely going to seek redemption. I’m not sure he’s going to know what direction to go in, but he won’t stop till he figures it out. It may not mean staking a vampire in the heart, but he’ll do something. I’m just waiting to see what’s in store for the rest of the series. It started out focusing on Elena, Damon and Stefan, but Bonnie [Katerina Graham] and her witchy ways are going to become a bigger part of the show; the town’s people who are trying to secretly hunt for vampires will be out in force; there are new characters popping up, so there’s a lot more to come. I’m just as excited as the viewers to see it unfold.
