Steven R. McQueen Interview

About.com has an interview with Steven R. McQueen.
Check it all out here, there is a video and a written transcript.
Here is an excerpt:
So are you going to be a vampire next season?
Steven R McQueen: “Well, you know, obviously I can’t give that much away otherwise they’d kick my ass down there. I can say Jeremy takes a very interesting turn in the upcoming season. His character has hit an all new rock bottom and starts to feel a whole new level of loneliness and emptiness, and starts to turn that against the world.”
You know, I’d like it if he could be happy for one episode though. Your guy is always going through so much.
Steven R McQueen: “Yeah, yeah. Unfortunately he’s always stuck in that Rebel Without a Cause mindset. But you know it’s always a little more fun to play it when you’ve got some serious stuff going on upstairs.”
Poor Jeremy, I want some happiness for him too!!!

IESB: Had you been a fan of the vampire genre before this, or is this just totally new to you? Can you understand the huge appeal of it?
Steven: I understand the huge appeal of it. I was more into the older vampire films than any of the modern ones that have come out. Though they’re all very good, I just haven’t watched them all that much. My favorite one is Gary Oldman’s Dracula. He’s probably one of my all-time favorite actors.
IESB: Earlier this season, there were some great moments between you and Kayla Ewell. Since you all started the series together, how difficult was it to lose her?
Steven: Honestly, that was awful. She’s a very talented actress, she’s beautiful and we all fell in love with her a little bit. It was really tough to see her go. It was purely for the storyline, which sucks. I think the way they did it was beautiful, but we were definitely very, very bummed to see her go

After getting his gig on “Vampire Diaries,” Steven was about to read the first book in the L.J. Smith series when he found out that his character, Jeremy, a troubled teen, was originally a 4-year-old girl. “I asked one of my little girl cousins who had already read it and she kind of gave me a look,” he said. “I got the gist of it from [them], they were so excited, they started jumping up and down on their beds. It was really cute.” (All together now: awwwwwww.)

Here is an excerpt: (CAUTION SPOILERS)
It was way back in 2009, but you may recall that earlier in the season, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pulled his special vampire brainwash-y powers out to erase Jeremy’s memory of his girlfriend Vicki’s death. The catch is, it’s not exactly clear what Damon did. “That’s something that’s going to unfold itself a little later in the series,” Steven said. “[Damon] did erase my pain and my grief and such, but I’m not sure what I can reveal of just how much he shut out of my memory — and if he put anything in there.” (Dun Dun Dun… )
As for those hairy rumors that Jeremy’s going to turn into a werewolf, this is what Steven had to say: “I know in the books, Tyler was the werewolf,” he said. “From script to script, we don’t really know too much ahead of time, but we did hear they might change that up. We’re not 100 percent sure on how that’s shaping to unfold itself.”
