The Deadbolt
has an article entitled, “5 Ways The Vampire Diaries May Take a Bite out of Twilight”.

Here are the reasons they list:

1. The Love Triangle
2. The Buffy Factor
3. The Vancouver Factor
4. Dramatic Irony
5. The Characters, Cast, and Room to Grow

Here is an excerpt from the article:

The Love Triangle

[The Vampire Diaries] The concept of a love triangle in The Vampire Diaries is very similar to that of the Twilight Saga but the differences lie in the character development. Elena likes Stefan, Stefan is attracted to Elena, and Damon simply wants to have his kicks with the both of them.

In The Vampire Diaries novels, Damon does develop true feelings for Elena but it will be interesting to see what route the writers decide to take with the show. It’s clear Twilight Saga fans have fallen head over heels for the love triangle between Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

With so much time in between Twilight films, The Vampire Diaries could fill the love triangle void that Twilight Saga fans will be missing once New Moon leaves theatres. After all, nothing says love like two vampires squaring off to the death over a human girl. Oh, the irony. But remember, there was also a love triangle in Buffy the Vampire Slayer between Angel, Buffy, and Spike, which proved to be more successful than anyone could have imagined.

Read the entire interview here.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

“You know, I don’t know enough about Edward Cullen to be honest with you,” Wesley said. “So I don’t know what his abilities are and his powers are. To be honest with you, I don’t know. I think that’s a really sort of up to the viewer or reader to decide. Once they start seeing the show, they can kind of make their decision but I have no idea. I can’t even answer that.”

The CW Network has now launched The Vampire Diaries series of webisodes that tie into the show. The webisode follows a boy names Jason who is looking for his sister’s killer in Mystic Falls. He also knows Stefan and Damon’s secret.

Canmag has an interview with Kevin Williamson, producer of the Vampire Diaries. He talks about vampires and the show.

Read the entire interview at Canmag.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

The premise is the same: you know, girl meets vampire,” said producer Kevin Williamson. “When you read the first book, I was like, ‘No way. This is Twilight.’ But when I got to the second book, you start to realize, ‘Oh, my God, boy, this is a fork in the road. It really does separate.’ Once we got into it, it’s sort of a challenge. It’s like, ‘What can we do differently? What can we add to it?’”

Canmag has an interview with Nina Dobrev. In the interview she talks about the show and vampires. You can read the entire article at Canmag.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

“I love these boys, but they’re like my brothers,” Dobrev said. “In terms of characters, Stefan is the man who tries to reach out to her soul, and he cares about her, and he takes care of her, whereas Damon has that bad-boy quality, and every girl likes a bad boy, at the end of the day. So it’s a toss-up. They’re both great guys, I’ll tell you that though.”

The CW Network, Alloy Media + Marketing and The American Red Cross Hold Blood Drives in High Schools and Colleges Nationwide Tied to the New Television Drama “The Vampire Diaries”

“The Vampire Diaries” Premieres Thursday September 10 (8:00-9:00pm) on The CW

August 25, 2009 (Burbank, CA) – In conjunction with the launch of the highly anticipated new series “The Vampire Diaries,” The CW Network, Alloy Media + Marketing and the American Red Cross are joining forces for blood drives at more than 230 high schools and college campuses across the nation.

The “Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood.” initiative, which starts today and runs for five weeks, encourages students to donate blood through the American Red Cross and help save a life. The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” premieres on Thursday, Sept. 10 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET/PT).

With specially branded “The Vampire Diaries” material, the blood drive initiative will be promoted in high schools and on college campuses through Alloy Media + Marketing’s nationwide media network, including high school display media and college newspapers. Brand ambassadors will also distribute flyers and other materials encouraging students to register in advance to participate in the blood drives.

During the blood drives, each location will feature themed “The Vampire Diaries” refreshment areas where students can refuel with special snacks. Exclusive “The Vampire Diaries” footage will be featured on TV monitors. Everyone who participates in the blood drives will walk away with special promotional items, including customized t-shirts.

The stars of The CW’s new series “The Vampire Diaries” will make a special visit to the blood drive at Georgia Tech on August 26 to encourage students to donate blood.

In addition, The CW and the American Red Cross will produce a public service announcement, promoting the need for blood donations that will feature the cast of “The Vampire Diaries.” The PSA will air on Alloy Media + Marketing’s proprietary media platforms, including the Teen.com TV (www.teen.com) video network and the school-based news program, Channel One News.

“In teaming up with the American Red Cross and Alloy, we’ve created a national campaign for our new show The Vampire Diaries’ that is creative, imaginative and at the same time, has the ability to save lives,” said Rick Haskins, EVP, Marketing and Brand Strategy, The CW. “Through these blood drives, we’ll be able to connect with students across the country promoting both a wonderful new show and an important cause.”

“The American Red Cross is excited to partner with The CW and Alloy Media + Marketing to promote the network’s new show, The Vampire Diaries,” said Stephanie Millian, spokesperson for the American Red Cross. “This is a great opportunity to engage the younger members of our communities in blood donation activities at participating high school and college campuses across the country.”

“This is an exciting initiative that raises awareness for an important issue with a unique and entertaining message that will resonate with young people,” commented Matthew Diamond, Chairman and CEO, Alloy Media + Marketing. “We are thrilled to bring The CW and the American Red Cross into Alloy’s network of high schools and college campuses as the school year begins, and look forward to the positive impact this program will have on a large audience of students.”
