Vampires are very popular in TV, movies and literature these days. The Vampire Diaries probably will benefit and perhaps even bolster the trend.
“What is it about vampires that do it for so many people?” Wesley says. “I’ve thought about that a lot, and I’ve decided that vampires offer a very interesting paradox. There’s something strangely magnetic and protective and comforting about vampires, because they have timeless essence and wisdom.
“But the same thing that makes you gravitate toward them makes you also want to run the other way, because they’re so deadly. Even the good ones have this internal struggle that keeps them from getting close to anyone.
“So the vampire is a very compelling, complex and tragic creature.”
Paul Wesley did an Interview on NY PIX Morning News. In the interview he talks about his character on the show. You can watch the video interview below. If it doesn’t work, I was having some issues, you can watch it here

“You know, I don’t know enough about Edward Cullen to be honest with you,” Wesley said. “So I don’t know what his abilities are and his powers are. To be honest with you, I don’t know. I think that’s a really sort of up to the viewer or reader to decide. Once they start seeing the show, they can kind of make their decision but I have no idea. I can’t even answer that.”
Vampire Diaries Web has up several more pictures of Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev from their Entertainment Weekly Photoshoot. Don’t they both look gorgeous!!
The Sentinel has an interview with Paul Wesley. You can read the entire interview here.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
When asked what he loves most about his profession, the actor said, “The same thing that makes me nervous, which is never knowing what will happen next. That’s what I love about it. I never know what character I’m going to play next, I never know what location I’ll be in next. With each new character, I find something new about myself that I didn’t know before.”
