At the mtvU Fandom Awards at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday night Damon/Elena of The Vampire Diaries won the award for Ship of the Year. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were unable to attend, but they did videotape a message and as always the two are hilarious.

Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Kat Graham, Matt Davis and Julie Plec all headed to Comic-Con this year to talk all things TVD. Watch the videos above to see the full panel from Comic-Con to hear them discuss what happened last season, what we can expect next season and more.

As the interview draws to a close, I notice a small tattoo on his right forearm. “It’s ‘here and now’ in Latin,” he explains, which comes as no surprise from someone doing so much right here, right now. And yet, it’s the future that keeps Somerhalder most inspired. “Create the future, ’cause you’re going to spend the rest of your life there,” he shares, leaning away from his now-empty glass and reflecting for a moment before dashing off into the cold night to join the city’s other vampires.
