Damon receives a call from Katherine that informs him that Stefan was back in Chicago. Elena is woken up by Damon at 6AM and she is not too happy about it. She is surprised he is there but is even more surprised when he asks her to go with him to Chicago to bring back Stefan.

Klaus and Stefan arrive in Chicago at an old warehouse. Stefan is somewhat confused about why Klaus has brought him here. Klaus tells him that he used to have a lot of fun here in the 1920’s and begins to fill him in on a few details. Flashing back, Klaus tells him about how Stefan used to run a night club during the prohibition in the 20’s.

Stefan also first meets a woman named Rebecca that happens to be Klaus’s sister. The two soon become a couple. Turning to Klaus, Stefan asks him why he still needs him. Klaus informs him that he needs to speak to a witch there that now runs the club named Gloria. She would know why the spell did not work and why his Hybrids all died.

Still locked up in the cell, Caroline begins to choke when more Verbena is pumped into the cell through air vents. Her father enters and tries hard to convince her to tell him how she could walk in the sun. Feeling weak from the Verbena, Caroline finally tells him that it was her ring. Bill pulls the ring off and tosses it aside.

Her father explains to her that the founding fathers had these cells specially built to take care of Vampires. Pulling a switch, a window opens and sunlight shines directly on Caroline, making her cry out in pain. Her father thinks he can change her but she pleads with him to stop.

On their way to Chicago, Damon hands Elena Stefan’s diary to read but she refuses. Telling her fine, Damon decides to read out loud. Soon he is reading about Stefan’s many conquests and Elena snatches the diary from Damon. She begins to read about Stefan’s experience in Chicago.

Stefan and Klaus soon arrive at the club they hung out in the 20’s. It was now called Gloria’s after the witch they knew way back in that era. Gloria bids them hello and explains that the reason she hadn’t really aged was her ability as a witch and using certain aging spells. Going behind the bar, Stefan was surprised to see a picture of him and Klaus.

Klaus explains to Gloria that he needs to know why the spell did not work and his hybrids all died. She tells him that the only way she could find anything out is if she spoke to the witch who performed the spell. Believing Bonnie was dead, Gloria tells him that she will need the locket his sister Rebecca had.

Damon and Elena arrive at the apartment Stefan lived in when he was in Chicago. Looking around, Elena doesn’t see anything that could help them out. Damon however walks over to a large bookcase and pushes on it. The bookcase soon opens up to a secret space. Walking inside, Elena just sees liquor bottles. Telling her to look closer, Elena soon finds herself staring at a long list of victims. Klaus begins to fill Stefan in on when they first met.

Stefan soon falls for Klaus’s sister Rebecca and the two became a couple. The three of them became very close. Stefan soon saw Klaus as a brother. Klaus and Stefan enter the warehouse where there are several coffins. Opening one, Klaus looks upon the face of his sister Rebecca. Stefan doesn’t recognize her at all. Klaus leans in and pulls out the dagger that was deep in her chest.

Sitting on Stefan’s bed, Elena begins to read more of his diary. She reads about how Lexie found Stefan and helped him for 30 years to stop feeding off of humans. Hearing a noise outside, Elena freezes up when she finds out it was Klaus and Stefan. Grabbing her stuff, she hides in Stefan’s secret space.

Noticing the door handle was gone, Klaus and Stefan enter the room cautiously. Klaus heads to the book case and opens it up. Stefan looks inside and sees the list of names. Soon his eyes fix upon Elena’s. Grabbing a bottle of Klaus’s favorite whiskey, they head on out.

Bill tells Caroline that he has to try and change her because he doesn’t want to kill her. Locking the door, Bill turns around and faces a gun pointed at him. Looking up, he sees it is Liz. She tells him that she will not allow him to harm their daughter and yells for Tyler. Tyler races into the cell and carries Caroline out.

Sharing a drink together, Stefan questions Klaus about their friendship and why he can’t remember any of it. Flashing back again, Klaus watches as Stefan dances with his sister. A moment later, gunfire erupts. Stefan pushes Rebecca to the floor and they discover that wooden bullets were being used. Klaus realizes that someone he and his sister had been running from have obviously caught up to them. Klaus turns to Stefan and compels him to not remember him or Rebecca. Grabbing his sister, he tells her they must leave. In the shuffle, her locket falls to the floor.

Back in the present, Stefan notices out of the corner of his eyes, Damon signaling him to go outside. Telling Klaus he wanted to go get a real drink, Stefan heads outside too. Once there, he confronts Damon and tells him what Klaus was doing. If he finds out Elena was alive, he will kill her.

Damon walks inside to be confronted by Klaus while Stefan confronts Elena. Telling Stefan that she misses him and wants him to come home, Elena hugs him closely. Pulling out a syringe of Verbena, Elena prepares to use it on him but Stefan pulls away quickly and the needle falls. Knowing that she must leave him alone so that she will be safe, Stefan tells her that he is done with her and that he never wants to see her again.

Liz tucks Caroline into her bed and is so thankful that she is home safe. Looking at her mother, Caroline tells her thank you for believing in her. Liz leaves the room when she sees Tyler standing in the door way. Tyler sits on the bed and hugs Caroline close. She begins to cry and tells Tyler that her father hates her.

Klaus enters the warehouse and sees that Rebecca was no longer in her coffin. Calling out for her, Klaus turns around and is stabbed by her with the same dagger. Unfortunately, this does not kill him. Flashing back, Klaus remembers why he stabbed her so long ago. He had asked her to choose between him and Stefan. Rebecca chose to be with Stefan and Klaus was not happy about that.

Pulling out a dagger, Klaus plunged it into her heart. Looking at the dagger his sister just stabbed him with, he pulls it out and tells her he has brought a peace offering. Stefan soon appears and Rebecca smiles. Turning to look at Stefan, Klaus looks deep into his eyes and compels Stefan to remember once again. Looking at Klaus’s sister, Stefan says her name with a smile on his face. Klaus tells Rebecca that he needs the locket. Her hands go to her neck and she realizes she has lost it. Stefan also realizes that it was the locket he found and gave it to Elena.
